Rev. & dear Brother,
May God give you great support in the new [?] office to which he has called you. I can’t say I congratulate you on your decision because that would seem as if I thought the office one to be sought. It is simply the laying on your heart & head & mind & soul of a great burden of duty, to the top of many of the constitutions & relief & sympathies of the [?] work. But it is of God. May his grace be sufficient for you, especially in the tune of the great need of our beloved country, so affected with sedation & rebellion.
I welcome you affectionately to our company & House.
Your affectionate friend,
[?] Charles P. McIlvaine
