My dear Mr. Chase,
Among the Judgeship to be made or Judges to be appointed in the District, can not something be got for Mr. Coxe? I am sure that no better legal mind can be found in Washington. You will do me a great favor if you will endeavor to induce the President to appoint him. I [by] to enclose a letter to the President on the subject, subject however entirely to your discretion as to the advised [?] of its delivery.
Yours affectionately,
Charles P. McIlvaine
