Noted Singer to Be In Mt. Vernon

Cyrena Van Gordon of Chicago Grand Opera Co., Coming For Festival--After several days' negociation, the directors of the Mt. Vernon Festival association announced Saturday morning that Cyrena Van Gordon, one of the greatest--if not the greatest--singers of Wagnerian songs, had been obtained as the leading soloist for the artists' recital and rendition of Rosini's Stabat Mater on the evening of May 25. Miss Van Gordon is regarded as one of the greatest contralto singers in the world. She is a member of the Chicago Grand Opera Co. A number of Mt. Vernon people had the pleasure of hearing her sing with the Chicago Grand Opera co. in "Lohengrin" in the city of Cleveland on March 15. Cleveland newspaper critics agreed that Miss Van Gordon's contralto voice was one of the best ever heard in Cleveland. Director William M. Coup of the Festival association chorus heard Miss Van Gordon sing in Cleveland and was so impressed with her voice that he commenced negotiations at once to obtain the wonderful singer. A telegram from her manager Saturday morning announced that Miss Gordon would be in Mt. Vernon on the evening of May 25. Miss Gordon will sing in Stabat Mater, to be given by the festival chorus, and will also be the leading soloist in the artist's recital.
