Abstract
This project uses sentiment analysis technology to examine the screenplays of The Godfather trilogy. Sentiment analysis generates data based on dramatic dialogue, rating each line on a sentiment scale that indicates the level of emotional intensity or neutrality, as well as whether the sentiment is positive or negative. By using this technology, the study identifies the unique curves of each film, allowing for a comparison of narrative peaks and valleys that helps explain the disparity between the series' acclaim and its criticism. Additionally, by measuring the sentiment arc disparities, the study seeks to illustrate why the first two films in the trilogy are considered masterpieces and the third a disappointing installment.
