Description

On April 11, 2020, the night before Easter, I still hadn't ventured to the grocery store for my daughters' chocolate bunnies, so I molded bunnies out of chocolate cake mashed with chocolate butter cream frosting, weighing each one to make sure it was of equal size (.75 pounds), then added some lavender candies for eyes and a pink marshmallow Peep from a single package of Peeps that I had gotten from the Family Dollar store when Peeps first had appeared seasonally, before the Peeps shortage was announced. The cake bunnies were slid into the refrigerator until Easter morning, then placed at the breakfast table on decorators' moss in baskets with the rest of the Peeps for a surprise. The girls, ages nine and thirteen, were thrilled and made no complaint about not having store-bought bunnies or more candy this year.
