My very dear Friend,
Tho my mind is full of cares of various kinds & tho’ I have long ceased to write to you, you are not the less in my fond remembrance. Nor, am I well aware, am I less in yours. Our Angel Charlotte has been a heavy load upon our hearts. I trust in God the danger is over, tho the Physicians will not positively pronounce the word. Today they said, “we are not yet quite out of the wood” at the same time the pain in her side the great seat of the disease is almost gone--still the fever is high, & she us reduced to skin & bone & the weakness of infancy. We are patiently waiting God’s will & his own good time. May the Father of Mercy hear our prayers & extend his accustomed goodness to our dear Child. We have our consolation to know that live or die she is the Lord’s. We are detained here far beyond our intended time. I long to go to the new scene of my duties, but first we must return to Great Horkesly to set all things in order there
I write on this paper in order to give you the direction for your Ohio donation of the Books which you require. You can shew it to your Ohio friends who [?] contribute also. Your names will be written in indelible ink in your respective books that your offspring unborn may read & rejoice in the works of their forefathers & excellent foremothers. Thank you for introducing a very sensible & fine specimen of young Irish Divinity to me. I am sorry I had not the power to see more of him. Had he come three weeks ago we could have feasted his Irish heart. I took him to a public dinner where the Primate of Ireland made a [striking] display of his towering person & genius, as well as of his pious heart. There are giants in these days in the Irish Church.
Give my affectionate remembrance to all yours & ask dear Mrs. More if she recollects anything of me, & tell her that I am one of her oldest Lovers. And pray say everything that is kind from me to Mrs. [Kenny] Yr. Ever affectionate G.W. Marriott
