Norwalk Aug 27, 1839
Dear Brother,
I have at length got through college last wednesday was commencement. the [scheme] of the [proceedings] of which I [?] you. I think it was a tolerably good one there [was] a larger collection of the people to hear us. the exercises [commenced] at ten and ended at [five] not too long for comfort. All of them were good and [?] tolerably well [committed]. [There] was a longer audience than there ever was [there] before I think. And every one [?] well of it. [There] was no one from Norwalk [?] [down] except [Mr] Gibbs who went [after] Charles. [After] our [examination] I [came] home and [apart] a [wield] and [returned] to Gambier on horseback. During that time I got [?] [a] [?] [with] [?] [?] [?] [but] [?] [?] [Father] has been gone [three] weeks we expect him home [in] a [week] more [when] he will go [east] as soon as soon a[sic] [possible] I do not know of any news [?] [?]. yesterday we had a very [?] Lightning which [struck] the [Post office but pos[?] of by [?] [?] cou[?] doing [no] [damage] [?] [?] [?] B[?]s [are] out. They had pretty [?] [having] a [?] fright but could not [raise] it. so you [?] not been out. We got your letter this morning sent from New Haven we shall expect another in a day or [?] [?] [?] [?] [?]. [Mr] Boult has just [?] for a journey north [?] [went] as far [as] Lake [Superior] I should go down to Cincinnati in four or [five] weeks I [suppose]. Scott has gone to Portsmouth to [keep] [A] school Charley Gibbs is to [?] [the] [winter] [here] [?] [?]. Wm [Balker] [and] Gall[?] are here now.
