Dear Sisr Rachael
I have resigned my principal jurisdiction of Ohio and with it of course my presidency of Kenyon College or (as it is called in the Law) of the The’l Semy. of the P.E. Ch: in Ohio.
As I have done this for the sake of the peace of the Church I hope for the blessing of God thro’ Jesus Christ Our Lord. The Rev. Mr. McIlvaine of Brooklyn Long Island is elected Bishop.. I go on Sunday with my family to live on Mrs. Russells land 32 miles from this. P. Chase
[See “Letter to Rachel Denison,” 09-13-1831 for typewritten transcription for the rest of the letter].
