My dear Wife;
Were the coach here I could not yet set off for home & I have some fears for today week. But hope I am decidedly Better.
This day have I put on my left sleeve of my coat and feel once more like a gentleman. When I look in the glass however I feel humbled at my emaciated visage.
I have written many letters for Mr. McIlvaine to take with him to Eng’d. and feel quite fatigued.
I think of you & home continually. Do kiss the children for their loving Father
P. Chase
