Right Reverend Sir,
Observing by the Appeal to the British Public circulatory in behalf of the Diocese of Ohio now under your Case, that theological Books are wanted for the use of the Seminary proposed to be established for bringing up young Men (Natives of your Country) in order to minister in holy Things in Communion with our established Church - I beg leave to inclose herein a Five Pound Note in Aid thereof, and make free to bring to your Notice a presumed opportunity of making a Purchase of Books supposed eligible for the Purpose, on reasonable terms - the Library of a clergyman deceased. When in London a few months since, curiosity led the Writer into the Shop of Bumpus the Bookseller, Aldersgate Street, and I was there shewn the Library [referred] to - it consisted of the old Works of several valuable Authors. I bought a few of them, and believe with a little Discretion (should the Books not be already sold) a Purchase may be made meriting Attention - if this Collection has however been disposed of - perhaps at other second hand Book Shops useful and standard Books purchased in Quantity - may thro’ a careful and intelligent Agent be obtained a Bargain. That God Almighty may prosper you abundantly in the great and good Work wherein you are so meritoriously engaged, and on your Return to your Home, multiply unto [your] faithful and zealous Labourers in the spiritual Vineyard of our common Lord, is the sincere Prayer of
