Last Will & Testament of Sophia M Chase

Widow of Philander Chase, late Bishop of the Diocese of Illinois.

I Sophia M Chase of the County of Peoria and State of Illinois, now of sound mind and memory, but aware of the uncertainty of life, do make and publish this, as my Last Will & Testament:

First

I give devise and bequeath to my three Sons Rev Dudley Chase, Henry Ingraham Chase Esq & Rev Philander Chase, and my daughter Mary Chamberline[sic], wife of Rev J.S. Chamberline[sic], their heirs and assigns, the following land and premises situated in the County of Peoria and State of Illinois and commonly known as the “Robins Nest” and particularly described as follows, to wit, ([?] insert the Surveyed or [?] description of the “Robins Nest” tract), charging said request with the payment to my said daughter “Mary.” of the Sum of Five hundred dollars, in each & every year, so long as she shall live, said amounts to be paid to her in quarter yearly instalments of Fifty dollars each, and at the discease[sic] of said daughter “Mary,” I do further charge said request, so made as aforesaid, with the payment, to the Trustees of “Jubilee College,” of said Sum of Two hundred dollars, annually, provided, said Trustees, shall have given, security, that said sum of money shall be expended, for the Board & Education and other reasonable Expenses, of the Son or Sons of the said “Mary” or her male descendants forever & in connexion with the aforesaid request, I do publish & declare that the same is made in accordance with my won desire & inclination and also for the purpose & with the full intent, on my part, to carry out & perform, what is required & provided for, in & by virtue of the last will & testament of my disceased[sic] husband Philander Chase.

Second

I give devise & bequeath [blank]

Third

I hereby nominate & appoint [blank] as the executors of my last Will & Testament, hereby conferring upon my said Executors full power & authority to execute under their hand & seal any Deed or other instrument of writing, that it may be necessary to execute for the purpose of carrying out performing any of the requirements of this my last will & Testament.

Given under my hand & seal this [blank] day of [blank] in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

Signed Sealed & published in our presence on the last will and Testament of Sophia M Chase & we have [?] set our signatures as witnesses in presence of each other & in presence of the Testator.
