My dear Mother
Sarah & I came down last evening.
I had made arrangements to come down on the 20th but the invitation to attend the Convocation has hastened our contemplated visit.
I remember you said you were visiting at Arcadia. I therefore write this tho I fear too late to go out this morning
Probably Sarah will go our tomorrow possibly not till Friday morning
If I can get an exchange I shall remain over Sunday if not I must return
I do not quite understand the Convocation whether it is to the true work of the Gospel that brings them together or whether there is something else that is the endearment. To settle the succession perhaps. If Mr Clarkson & Giddings & [Cracraft] are index you may [know] what I think
We are staying at Mr Johnsons and are very politely treated
We left the Children & [Ann] [very] well with a Miss Fay a young lady who is to be married at our house on my return. Sarah will stay till about the 20 & we will expect you to return with us and make a visit in June the pleasantest time of the year
Are you going to St Anthony this Summer--If so Ann will go with you--She is intending to go to Dubuque in all events.
I hope to see you soon
I will close with love to Philander & his family
Your affectionate Son
Dudley Chase
