To the Rt. Rev Tho’ C. Brownell DD LL.D.

Bishop of the Diocese of Connecticut

Jubilee College Decr 2 1851

Dear Brother;

I send you inclosed, a letter which I thought is my duty to address to the Editors of the Spirit of Missions; in which I have tried to find an apology, for the great mistake made in the Statement signed by your name in the number for November of the present year

The object of my troubling you with this note is to enquire whether my apology be the true, [one] or only on[sic] of Jan’y. In other words are you the sole author of what appears over your signature touching your visit to N. Orleans in the year of our Lord 1830? Answer to this will very much oblige

Your affectionate friend and loving Brother in the Lord

Phil’r Chase. Bp. of Ill
