My dear Laura.
I have great satisfaction in reading your good letters but have little time to answer them as they deserve and as my tender regard to you dictates
I think much of your approbation of my decision in case of calling the Bishops together: If it be considered a Rebuke for so ill judged a requisition I am willing it should so pass through my mind felt humbled that I was called on to differ from my brethren
We are all well: having every moment to work for our living and to keep the College Institution from sinking under the load of difficulties occasioned by our losses by fire.
It is passion week and soon I am called on for divine service in the Chapel
I send you with this our 11th No of the “Motto.” I hope its contents will please you, your Mother and Sister. Of your husband I hear nothing but that he is a member of the Wisconsin legeslature[sic], in which station wish him to remember whose servant he is, that of his Dear Country & of the Lord God who governs us all & will call us all to give an acct to him at the last
That you & your little ones may be blessed is the prayer of your loving Grand Father
Phil’r Chase
