Transcript
The presiding Bp of the Prot. Episl. Chh in the U.S. having received notice of the election and acceptance of the Rec Dr Upfold of Pitts’g Pa. to the Episcopate of Indiana has signified to him that he cannot consent to give his individual sanction to the same, on the ground that he, the Rev Dr Upfold is, in his opinion, a slanderer, endeavouring to bring into unjust contempt the character of the Bishops individually, and especially in their highest court of judicature, thereby rendering himself unfit to be consecrated to the office of a Bishop.
Signed Philan’r Chase
