Dear Phi.,
I am better than when I left home: and am on my way to Cinc.
The Trustees of the College in Cinc. have by an unanimous vote alerted me to the Presidency: but my acceptance of the appt. is a matter of extreme uncertainty: You will know the matter terminated in a few days.
E[?] Brown is the bearer of this. He is your second cousin: and I hope a worthy man. He is going directly to [Keane N. H.]. Pray write to Salmon’s mother and give her some hint of Salmon’s prospects, with you the coming winter. She may hear the school is broken up and [?] and feel uneasy for her son.
I have but one moment to tell you that I officiated at Springfield night before last - and last night in this place, and expect to be in Cinc. Friday night. Shall return by this place and Piqua next week.
Your loving father
P.C.
