My dear Mary -
I am once more in this very city and as busy myself as is possible to be and live.
Laura Chase your cousin is with me and a very [modern] pretty girl she is. I know you will like her when on our way we call at Steubenville. This blessed event if God permit is now not far distant. In about one month or 6 weeks from this you may expect to see us. If you think this a long time, what shall I think of a year’s absence from my dear family?
I preached last night and tomorrow if I am able shall preach three times.
You see enough about me in the papers to render it quite proper for me to be [?] on the subject of the College in Illinois so reasoning all private matters for a personal interview I am your loving grandfather
Philander Chase
