Abstract

The "Gate of Sultan Qaytbay 1469/873, a superb example of the carved-stone surface decoration of the later Mamluk period. Against an embroidered and tessellated surface, the stalactite niches give the impression of stone lace" (Williams, 171). The gate leads to the main courtyard of the mosque.
