Description
Closeup of the richly ornamented muqarnas hood over the mihrab of the Muzaffarid madrasa. This muqarnas construction is "revetted with light blue, dark blue, black and white tiles as well as unglazed tiles," and its elements have been masterfully arranged so that looking at any one of them, the viewer is guided to the intricate, circular geometric figure at the top. The decoration on the flat tiles in the center is also exquisite, consisting of a combination of Arabesque motifs and square Kufic calligraphy. -MA
