Abstract

The east façade of the Sebil Sultan Qait Bay, showing decorative carvings above the entrance door.

Description

A view of the Mamluk sebil or water-fountain of Sultan Qait Bay dating from 1482. It consists of three zones, the tallest of which is the square base crowned with relief Quranic inscriptions, followed by a drum with pyramidal buttresses and pierced by four windows, and finally the whole is topped by a dome with a finial.
