Abstract
Detail from side gallery of iwan vault, showing dado of light blue hexagonal tiles frame by narrow bands of mosaic faience, containing large mosaic faience medallion. This intriguing style became the hallmark of Timurid architecture in Yazd.
Description
Although the Friday Mosque at Yazd is dated to Ilkhanid times, the present structure is strictly from the 14th century. This magnificent iwan was added in the reign of Shahrukh, with its minarets ranking as the tallest in Iran. The patterns and decorations are mainly Muzaffarid in origin, but refined considerably by the Timurids.
