Abstract
Panels of mosaic faience on a brick background. The mosaic faience differs from later Timurid work in that large pieces of cut tile are used here.
Description
Although the Friday Mosque at Yazd is dated to Ilkhanid times, the present structure is strictly from the 14th century. This magnificent iwan was added in the reign of Shahrukh, with its minarets ranking as the tallest in Iran. The patterns and decorations are mainly Muzaffarid in origin, but refined considerably by the Timurids.
