Abstract
Exterior view of the dome of the Friday Mosque at Saveh.
Description
Exterior view of the dome of the Friday Mosque at Saveh. Arthur Pope is of the opinion that this building is representative of Safavid architecture, and there are speculations that the site of the building has been in use since pre-Islamic times. Pope writes that the building makes a “noble impression, primarily because of the proportions and contour of the dome and its relation to the portal screen…the dome and [portal] screen are far more rational and graceful than anything that survives from the fifteenth century."
