Abstract
View from the lower platform of the gymnasium, looking out over the plunge pool. This was a cold water pool used by athletes training for the Pythian games.
Description
View from the lower platform of the gymnasium looking out over the main pool of the gymnasium bath complex, with the Palaestra, or wrestling area to the left. In the background lie the foothills of Μt. Neraidolakomma. The complex was first constructed in the 4th century BCE, but was rebuilt and expanded by the Romans, who added hot baths in addition to the existing cold pools. The plunge pool pictured measures 9 meters in diameter and 1.8 meters deep, and was original to the site.
