Description
Etching of a city scene. A canal goes through the center of the scene, with gates closed at the edge of the water. Buildings line the side of the canal with merchants, well-dressed ladies, and beggars populate the street.
This etching is one of 36 created for Vedute Altre prese da i Luoghi Altre ideate (Views, Some Taken from Places, Others Invented) depicting Venice, Canaletto's home and constant source of artistic inspiration.
