Description

Otto Dix served as a machine gunner in World War I from 1914 to 1918. This book of twenty-four prints reproduces the graphic aftermath of battle, representing the horrific realities of war based on the memories of someone who live it. Working with etching and aquatint mediums, Dix stopped out white patches and placed the etched plates in multiple acid baths to create effects of bleached white bones and decaying flesh. A digitized version of the book can be found here.
