Creator Biography
Creator Daniel Jean Baptiste Dupuis was born in Blois, France in 1849, and he started his training at the age of sixteen at École des Beaux Arts, where he was trained in painting and medal engraving. Dupuis found much success in his life, and by 1872 he had won the Grand Prix de Rome, as well as later exhibiting his medal engravings, sculptures, drawings, and paintings at the Salon.

Description
This medal depicts the personification of agriculture, and it shows the profile of an androgynous figure looking to the left. Their hair is decorated with wheat plant and a sickle tucked behind their ear. To the left of the figure curving around the edge of the medal, Daniel Dupuis is identified as the creator with the Latin spelling, “Daniel Dvpvis.”
The reverse of the medal simply reads, “1803 Louisiana Purchase Exposition Sᵀ Louis 1904”. Additionally, the medal’s material, bronze, is revealed in the bottom left region.
