Provenance

Purchased on March 15, 2024 from Ateeq Design in Zamalek, a wealthy and westernized, art-centered neighborhood of Cairo. The shop was overflowing with the average Cairo souvenirs (glass pyramids, ceramics, postcards, keychains, etc). The scarab was found in a large unlabeled basket containing at least 100 other scarabs of different sizes and colors, all in the same style. It was sold for forty Egyptian pounds, which on that day was about 80 cents in USD.
