Creator Biography

Hmong artist in Thailand refugee camp

Description

This embroidered and quilted cloth visually tells the story of Hmong communities in Laos who fled to Thailand during and after the Vietnam War. Hmong refugees in the U.S. sent the blue and grey cloth back to their families still in Thai refugee camps, where this story cloth was made. This story cloth, and many others like it, were sold in the U.S. as a source of income for those still in the refugee camps.
