    Description

    In the 1870s Alphonse Bertillon, a Parisian policeman, began developing an index of criminals cataloged on ID cards that featured photographs along with a written description of the individual's physical characteristics. The practice soon spread to the US.

    This item includes a mug shot with arrest card printed on the back (2023.1.1) and a separate copy of the arrest card (2023.1.2).
