Description

Made of wood, painted, and varnished, the icon follows the common style of depicting feast icons. Like others, it displays the twelve great feasts that follow the lives of Christ and the Virgin in mostly chronological order, beginning with the Nativity of the Virgin and ending with exultation. Orthodox Christians observe these events as holidays that they celebrate yearly. The icon displays twelve small panels and a thirteenth central panel featuring the Harrowing of Hell in which Christ descends to hell before his resurrection and brings souls to salvation.

To understand each scene along with the translations, please look into the additional files.
