Description

These are the two right panels of the original four. Each consists of a square surmounted by an ogee top and divided into four compartments to enclose the scenes. The left panel depicts 5 church feasts: Elevation of the Cross, Anastasis, Ascension, Trinity, and Dormition of the Virgin. The right-hand panel depicts the famous miraculous icons of the Virgin: Smolesnk, Vladimir, the sign, and Tikhvin being venerated by local clergy and saints. The back of the left-hand panel, which serves as a cover for the icon when it is closed, depicts a cross with the instruments of the Passion in front of the city of Jerusalem. The image of the cross is enclosed with a medallion and surrounded by an ornamental frame. The decoration of the panels is done with relief.
