Description

This letter was submitted to the archive by the artist himself. In it he describes the though processes behind his 'Body Experiments', existential explorations of the physical and metaphysical self. In Zhang's photographs, his body is usually the focal point used to express humanity's ability to overcome hardship and enter the sublime. His Body Experiments often play with the natural world. The artist is often depicted interacting with his environment with intimacy, forgoing any hierarchal structures ordering man and nature and welcoming nature as an equal. This letter is written in a poetic, lyrical style that supplements his cerebral artistic performances. (Nicole Wang '26).
