Description
This photograph captures two men and a woman sorting through camera film. There are three visible young boys surrounding them. The title creates an interesting contrast with the photograph. A common Communist slogan, the artist's repurposing of the phrase raises the question of who "the people" are and how they are being served in this case. This photograph is one of multiple in the artist's "Serve the People" series where he photographs people from different provinces or locations in China (Nicole Wang '26).
