Description
"There Are Windows on the Earth" was exhibited in the show, "My Windows-You Jindong Album Exhibition of Own Works" (The photo shows that the artist and his daughter stand in front of painting). The artist employed sloppy and thick brushstroke to depict the muddy and rugged earth of Beidahuang, Heilongjiang province, where the artist was sent to during the "Educated youth going to the countryside" movement. The artist used fisheye perspective to lay the audience down on the earth to view the vastness of the earth and the narrowness of the sky. Earth is a significant symbol in Chinese literature, poetry and drama. It usually represent nostalgia, patriotism, but the artist endorses another meaning to the earth in this painting, which is chaotic and aggressive suppressing the space of sky, For the artist's bio information, see https://digital.kenyon.edu/zhoudocs/392/ (Zhuocheng Jiang '26)
