Abstract
A view of the north end of the Haram platform, showing several landmarks.
Description
A view of the northern Haram platform seen from the west, depicting, from left to right, The Dome of Solomon (A.80-81), the Ghawanima Minaret (A.67), and the Dome of the Prophet's Lovers. The Dome of Solomon dates from the 12th-13th century, and legend associates it with the place where Solomon prayed after the building of the Jewish Temple, and also where Jesus instructed the doctors of the Law (Luke 2: 46-47). The Dome of the Prophet's Lovers was constructed in 1818 by Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II, and is named for the Sufi sheiks that would gather there for prayers.
