Description

This is a 1984, English-language translation of George Grosz’s Abrechnung Folgt (The Day of Reckoning). The publication date of the original edition is listed as 1925 on the copyright, which appears to be a misprint. A 1923 edition in the original German can be found here (2026.3).

This edition includes an introduction written by Frank Whitford (1941–2014), a British art historian, art critic, and newspaper cartoonist.

With this book is a clipping of Otto Dix’s 1923 drawing “Prostitute and War Wounded” published in a review of the exhibition Glitter and Doom: German portraits from the 1920s at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Rabb, Theodore K. “A jaundiced gaze.” The Times Literary Supplement, February 2, 2007.
