Spring in the Jade Hall 玉堂春

Description

The artist’s sound installation Yutang Chun (Spring in the Jade Hall), shown at the National Art Museum of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1994, is considered as a poetic example of her work (“Qin Yufen”, Pearl Lam Galleries). The artist plays distorted sound tracks of Chinese opera Yutang Chun in more than 600 speakers, which are hidden inside hanging rice papers. The artist combines the visual and the aural by presenting the sound tracks and other material objects such as clothes stands, silk, and the suits of Mao Zedong in this installation art.
