Description
"A Woman Lying Down" is an installation created from 1988 to 1993, a continuation of experiments on sculpture after the artist emigrated to Austria due to participating in the Tiananmen Square movement in 1989. This piece is highly abstract. “A Woman Lying Down” is reduced to the minimum recognizable characteristics. Meanwhile, he encapsulates the dynamics of a lying woman by geometrical lines. The textured wooden surface and polished core organically distinguish the “body from “Garments.” This beauty of abstraction is a feature of Wu’s work and provides audiences with broader imaginations. Gao Minglu, a Chinese critic, pointed out Brancusi's geometrical shapes and Henry Moore’s holes gave him inspiration.
