Description
"The Angels" is an installation created from 1988 to 1993, a continuation of experiments on sculpture after he emigrated to Austria due to participating in the Tiananmen Square movement in 1989. He modeled the shape of gypsum into a sagging human breast, used red paint to represent ribs and nipples. Light yellow paint covered the rim, but the center remains unpainted. This piece gives a tangible sense of human organs alienated from living human bodies. Hanging by a thin string and dimming lighting in the basement room reminds audiences of Chinese preserved pork. He is one of the artists who brought up the issue of sexuality in China in the 1980s. (Zhuocheng Jiang '26)
