Description
This work is comprised of numerous miniature figural sculptures (perhaps realized by clay or cement). These sculptures either depicts the figures in complete body form or in amputation (or even the absence of the entire body). Most of the figures are dressed in military armors and helmets; and along with its title, it is safe for us to extrapolate the figures' soldier identities. Upon the body of each figure (including the presumed body space for the absent figures), LIU Yan placed a different nation flag; in total he placed 21 flags representing 21 countries. By the bottom-right corner the work, the artist also incorporates his signature in Pin-Yin (phonetic spelling in Chinese). (Jerry Wu'23).
