Lawn Fete at First Ward

Description

The lawn fete given be the members of the Parent-Teachers club of the First ward school, assisted by the pupils of the school, at the school ground Wednesday evening was a decided success. Probably the largest crowd ever attending such an affair in this city was present during the evening. It is thought that nearly $75 was realized from the sale of refreshments on the grounds. This will be used in clearing the deficit of the past school year. The grounds at the shcool were attractively decorated with flags and Japanese lanterns. A pantomime was enacted by the girls of the eighth grade, and the girls of the seventh grade gave a very pleasing May-pole dance. Mr. W. E. McCormick president of the Mt. Vernon Parent-Teachers' association, was present and introduced Mr. A. W. Elliott, new superintendent of the Mt. Vernon schools. Mr. Elliott gave a sort talk to the large number of persons present.
