Lena "Midge" McGee was born around 1879 and worked as a domestic for most of her life. She saved her money and eventually purchased a home, a duplex on East Ohio Avenue, renting out the upper portion of the dwelling to other "colored" families. Her home was known for it elegant parlor and she for the elaborate hats and occasional furs that she wore.
