Dear Samuel

Although I have written you a letter so recently as day before yesterday, yet I can not refrain from telling you that which seems to be subject of mutual congratulations throughout all the circles of our Church,

The adoption of the Diocese of Illinois among those of the Union of our Church has taken place in the Convention without a dissenting voice!

This is peculiarly propitious; and I think it is regarded by all as a mark of the divine favour.

There is now no need of my presenting your letter to Bp: Griswold for dismission from his to my diocese, for by the Instrument of admission all the Clergy resident therein and mentioned as having agency in this affair, are transferred together to Illinois.

Our duty now is plain before us. May God give us grace to perform it!

In haste your loving uncle

P. Chase
