Abstract

The 11th-century Byzantine monastery of Daphni, featuring what Trachtenberg calls "the cross-octagon, which integrates cross-in-square and octagon-domed schemes" (181). The monastery is famous for some of the superb mosaics adorning its interior (see W.032). -MA
