Description

La Lanzada Hermitage, Spain. The point with ruins of fortifications (probably a medieval castle) and the hermitage. Romanesque style, but built well into the Gothic period. It has long been (and still is) a goal of ""romerias,"" a combination of pilgrimage and picnic. It is located in a superb location on a point extending into the Atlantic that had been fortified since Roman times. Unfortunately, its exposed position has subjected the building to considerable erosion.
