An essay is presented on the authorship of Sophia Peabody Hawthorne in the "Cuba Journal" and "Notes in England and Italy." It explores how Hawthorne's writings have been influenced by foreign locations she visited and wrote her journals and letters. It highlights the texts used by Hawthorne outside the national boundaries of American authors which belongs to the transnational literature of the 19th-century.
