Description

A crowded bar is filled with elderly gentlemen sitting around a table, smoking and drinking beer. The image is captioned with "Le coin des politiques," translating roughly to "The political corner."

This lithograph is one of four from the series A La Brasserie or At The Brewery printed by publisher Martinet (or Martinet-Hautecoeur) at 172 r. Rivoli et 41 r. Viviennee and lithographic printer Destouches at r. Paradis Pre. Published in the Paris illustrated magazine, Le Charivari, the magazine, like Daumier, had shifted from political cartoons to social satires after censorship laws went into effect.
